Michael Douglass is coming out of retirement!
Michael Douglass is a 57-year veteran of the Wine and spirits community. As proprietor and founder (1965) of Post Wine and Spirits, Syosset, NY, he led the store to become one of the leading stores in the New York metro area. He conducted the wine studies program as an adjunct professor at Hofstra University. Presently, he leads the wine education program at the North Shore Preserve in Glen Cove, New York.
Michael brings his vast experience to consulting for wine merchants in the New York area. He has traveled extensively, interacting with historical estate owners and wine and food personalities such as Madame Bollinger, Baron Philipe Rothschild, Angelo Gaia, Harry Waugh, James Beard, and Julia Child. As president of the Nature’s Vineyards Wine Council, he is passionate about recognizing the need for sustainable production now and in the future.
Michael now collaborates with George Eldi of Wines by Nature in Wading River. Michael’s promotion and education of fine wine dating back to the 1960s when alcohol consumption far outweighed that of wine was always his goal. George Eldi has pioneered the promotion of sustainable wines and spirits, as indicated by his passionate enthusiasm for the movement. 95% of George’s inventory is sustainable, organic, or biodynamic wine.
After 55 years in the wine and spirits business, Michael thought retirement would be relaxing. During Covid, however, he began to read about wine sustainability. He was captivated by its appeal and personal involvement with many wineries that were following the concept to improve what were already great products. Since joining George and sampling more and more of these wines, he is convinced it is an exciting chapter in wine development quality and environmental concerns. Michael will soon present unique offerings on the Wines by Nature website, Facebook, and Instagram.
This collaboration is a perfect fit and learning experience for Michael and George. Look for our exciting new venture, Nature’s Vineyards, soon to be launched.
