Description
Established in 1983, Paumanok is an estate winery located on the North Fork of Long Island owned and operated by the Massoud Family. Charles and Ursula Massoud began as growers, harvesting their first crop in 1985. They sold their grapes throughout the 1980s.
1988 was a fantastic vintage that inspired the Massouds to build their own winery, which was completed in 1990. Paumanok is now in the hands of the next generation: Kareem Massoud has recently taken over as winemaker and is a former president of Long Island Wine Country. He is also the winemaker of neighboring Palmer Vineyards.
From its inception, Paumanok’s focus has been to grow the highest quality wines. Paumanok’s guiding philosophy is that only the healthiest, ripest grapes will produce great wine — there is no substitute. Paumanok produces several varietal and blended wines with fruit originating from its 80 acres of vineyards, including New York’s only Chenin Blanc, along with Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
